Oman Warns Citizens Against Sharing ‘Sectarian’ Videos

On December 7, 2016, it was reported that the Gulf state of Oman had issued a sharp warning to its citizens about sharing “sectarian” videos, and warned of harsh penalties for those found guilty of doing so. Public prosecutor Hussein Al-Hilali issued a statement to the press reminding of the penalties for sharing videos on social media that “incite sectarian and religious strife,” and stressed that he had ordered other public prosecutors to crack down on any such activity.
