May 2, 2017

On April 26, 2017, it was reported that Indian authorities in Kashmir had banned Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Google+, Skype, Snapchat, and YouTube, after claiming that they were “being misused by antinational and antisocial elements.” Other banned platforms include Pinterest, Flickr, Wechat, Vine, QQ, Ozone, and Line.

The move is in response to protests that have broken out in the region, as well as claims that social media are being used to rally support against Indian administration in Kashmir.
