Iranian, Russian Hackers Team Up To Hack U.S. Military Contractor

May 18, 2017

On May 16, 2017, it was reported that Russian hackers may have been involved in an attempt by Iranian hackers to hack into the network of a U.S. military contractor, as the Iranians were using a toolset that belonged to a Russian mercenary hacker who hacked Ukraine in 2015 and shut down parts of the country’s power grid.

The Iranian hackers involved in the attack were part of a group called OilRig, which previously hacked oil companies in Saudi Arabia and Israel before targeting military, financial and energy companies in Europe and the U.S.
