January 13, 2016

On January 8, 2015 the Caliphate Cyber Army (CCA), a group of pro-Islamic State (ISIS) hackers, circulated a link to their latest release, “The Establishment of Caliphate Ghosts,” that it had uploaded to the Internet Archive.[1] The 13-minute video showed off some of the CCA’s successful hacks, and featured the hacking of the website of the Global Security & Training Services (GSTS), an Israeli company. The video features the usual ISIS rhetoric of threats to the West, the conquering of cities, and the destruction of landmarks such as the White House, Big Ben, and the Eiffel Tower. This group of hackers also promoted the name “Caliphate Ghost” in the video; this refers to Pro-Palestinian hackers AnonGhost with whom the CCA have joined forces.

The video explains that Westerners are presented with two choices: they can either submit to Allah or pay the jizyah poll tax imposed on non-Muslims under Muslim rule. The video emphasizes: “If, however, you choose the third option and insist on being arrogant, conceited, and stubborn, then you will soon by Allah’s permission bite your fingers in regret.”

The video also features audio from a previous speech by ISIS spokesman Abu Muhammad Al-‘Adnani: “We want, Allah willing, Paris before Rome and before Al-Andalus, [and] after that we will blacken your life and blow up your White House, Big Ben, and the Eiffel Tower, Allah willing…We want Kabul, Karachi, the Caucasus, Qom, Riyadh, and Tehran. We want Baghdad, Damascus, Jerusalem, Cairo, Sana’, Doha, Abu Dhabi, and Amman. And Muslims shall return to ruling and leadership everywhere.”[2]  .
