Iranian Supreme Leader Calls for Boosting Iran’s Cyber Power

Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei wrote in a July 1 letter to Iranian President Rouhani to increase Iran’s deterrence and defense capabilities. The letter, according to Press TV, announced the general policies of the Sixth National Development Plan and stated that Iran’s “political achievements” in Southwest Asia should be maintained and increased.

Khamenei specified that 5% of the country’s budget should be set aside solely for defense capabilities to secure regional Iranian national security interests.

Among other points highlighted by Khamenei was the necessity of boosting soft power and cyber-defense capabilities as well as providing air defense and cyber-security for the country’s infrastructure.
